The Gift of Finalization at Christmas Time

December 25, 2025
Family celebrating adoption finalization with judge

There are many reasons I love Christmas time, but one of the most meaningful is the privilege of participating in final adoption hearings.

Adoption Day is unlike any other. The courtroom is filled with joy, excitement, peace, and hopeful anticipation for the future. It’s the moment when a family’s long journey reaches the security and permanence they have been working toward—sometimes for years. It truly cannot be overstated how deeply special these hearings are to the families who experience them.

"What makes this time of year even more remarkable is the commitment of a judge in our Sixteenth Circuit who, every single year, intentionally holds adoption finalization hearings one—or sometimes even two—days before the end of the year."

A special moment between the judge and a big brother.

He does not have to do this. His time is pulled in countless directions, especially during the holidays. And yet, he chooses to make adoption finalizations a priority so families can enter the new year with the legal permanence they have long awaited.

That kind of dedication matters. It sends a powerful message to children and parents alike: family matters, permanence matters, and this moment matters.

The Sixteenth Circuit is truly blessed to have a judge who understands the significance of adoption and consistently goes above and beyond to serve families in this way.

As we celebrate this season, may we all pause to remember the true reason for it—love, hope, and new beginnings.

🎄 Merry Christmas, y'all.
